Professor Mieke Van Driel was appointed to the Chair in General Practice at The University of Queensland in November, 2011.
In addition to her role as Head of Discipline, Mieke will be taking a key leadership role in the new Global and Community Medicine courses in the new MBBS Program from 2012, and clearly her expertise and interest in evidence-based medicine and global experience will be vital.
Mieke did her medical studies (MD) at Utrecht University in The Netherlands, a Diploma in Tropical Medicine at Antwerp in Belgium and her PhD in Medical Sciences at Ghent University in Belgium. She has been in Australia for the last few years and is fully registered as a specialist in general practice (FRACGP), and she most recently was Professor of General Practice at Bond University.
Mieke’s main interests are in evidence-based practice and global health. She joins us at an exciting time for our Discipline of General Practice, with its research agenda powering ahead on many fronts, both through the major program grants won by Claire, but also through the strong research efforts of Professor Geoff Mitchell who also manages to lead the medical program at Ipswich.
