Shared Decision-Making

The Centre for Research in Evidence-Based Practice, in conjunction with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) of Australia and the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare, held a Symposium on research in shared decision making in October 2013.

The purposes of the inaugural symposium were to: increase awareness of the role of shared decision making in Australian health care, develop national interdisciplinary networks and collaborations, and identify gaps and priorities in shared decision making research.

This symposium brought together Australian researchers, consumers, practitioners, policy makers, and representatives from organisations with an interest in Shared Decision Making. Also present was an international visitor, Professor France Légaré, Professor of Implementation of Shared Decision Making in Primary Care, from Laval University, Canada.

Other internationally-renowned experts on Shared Decision Making who presented were:  Professor Michael Barry (President of the Informed Medical Decisions Foundation, USA) and Professor Victor Monitor (Mayo Clinic, USA).
