Workshops and Research Support

The unit offers funded seats for Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service District staff to attend workshops aimed at providing them with EBP and research skills and knowledge. In addition, the unit also offers individual consultations for researchers on their projects.

Evidence Based Practice Workshops

This workshop provides fundamental skills in Evidence Based Practice (EBP). It is aimed at busy clinicians who want to learn how to effectively search and evaluate evidence to answer clinical questions.

This includes creating answerable questions using PICO, how to critically appraise the quality of the evidence found, understanding the statistics, and applying findings to every-day practice. No previous EBP or research experience is required.

The workshops are delivered over a series of shorter sessions, or in a one-day workshop and are free for Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service District staff.

Protocol Writing Workshop

This woDelivered by the Equator Network and Centre for Research in Evidence Based Practice, Bond.

This workshop aims to take you from a research question to a complete study protocol. You will be asked to submit a brief outline beforehand. If you don’t have an idea ready for protocol development, you can still attend, and help with other participants’ protocols. Preference will be given to those who wish to work on their own protocol.

The workshop will consist of short talks, followed by practical sessions in small groups. Two facilitators for each group will help development, answer questions, and ensure your idea gets the input needed to turn it into a protocol suitable for submission to an ethics committee, or ready to include in a grant application.

The workshop for 2018 is now complete, please contact us to enquire about future dates.

Systematic Review Workshop

This 2-part workshop provides an introduction to systematic reviews, and is aimed at clinicians and researchers who want to understand how to use and conduct a systematic review.

The workshop will include a mixture of brief talks and hands-on small group tutorials, with opportunities to work on your own review.

Participants may attend session 1, session 2 or both. While no previous experience with systematic reviews is required, we strongly suggest that participants with no prior systematic review experience attend session 1 prior to attending session 2.

The workshop for 10 May 2018 has been cancelled, please contact us to enquire about future dates.
